Lukas Ligeti, Holywell Music Room, Oxford
This is a shot of Lukas Ligeti performing at the Holywell Music Room in Oxford. Aside from his impressive bit of kit, the marimba lumina (an electronic, sample-firing marimba built by Californian boffins), his show wasn’t much to look at, so I headed to the back above the stairwell to try to frame him down the entrance hallway. He’s the little blurry blob in the centre of the shot. Were I to own a magnificent wide-angled lens, I could have made much more of this shot, but as it is, you still get him, the foreground and a sense of the audience (you can even make out the cameraman on the right). As a side note, I thought this was the only time I’d ever see such a curio as the marimba lumina, then Tortoise had one at the Royal Festival Hall last weekend. Twice in two weeks – this week’s DULL FACT.
